The EcoSmart Foundation is a not-for-profit Canadian corporation based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Our mission is to advance innovative technologies and practices that are ecologically and economically smart. Our work focuses on creating collaborative industry-government partnerships to further sustainability, primarily within the renewable energy, green building and sustainable construction industries.
Since 1998, we have worked in the following fields:
- ENERGY: We have been active in solar energy since 2008 and developed two prominent large-scale solar PV projects: SunMine and the Tsilhqot’in Solar Farm.
- CONSTRUCTION: The production of one tonne of cement produces one tonne of CO2. We helped the cement and concrete industry reduce their carbon footprint by replacing cement with recycled industrial by-products.
- GREEN BUILDING: We promoted green buildings even before LEED existed. We created a ‘deep-green’ display called the ‘Sustainable Condo’ that traveled across North America, and then we produced an updated version for the city of Chongqing in China.
EcoSmart is governed by a board of directors, made up of volunteer members from across the country, who represent research, government, and the private sector.
